Task B- Ethical
The ethical concept of journalism is it cannot always guarantee the truth but getting the facts right is the cardinal principe of journalism. We should always strive for accuracy, and give all the relevant facts we have and ensure that they have been checked when we cannot corroborate information that should be focused on.
Most of the stories have at least stories to every problem. While there is no obligation to present every side of the story. However it should always be balanced out to make the situation fair to the person. Objectivity is not always possible, and may not always be desirable but impartial reporting builds trust and confidence.
The IPSO claims to be an independent regulator of the newspaper and magazine industry and exists to promote and uphold the highest professional standards of journalism in the UK and supports the members of the public in seeking redress where they believe that the editors code of practice has been breached.
The IPSO handles complaints and conducts its own investigation into editorial standards and compliance. it also undertakes monitoring work, including by requiring publications to submit annual compliance reports.
IMPRESS has caused friction with the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) and the big national titles, who are mostly owned by the same publishing groups, plus also the regional papers, by challenging IPSO's control of the regulation of the UK Press. Impress, as of October 2016, became the UK's 1st officially recognised press regulator after its application for Royal Charter recognition was granted, in a move backed by many campaign groups and the National Union of Journalists(NUJ). However, IPSO, with the help of The News Media Association - which represents many of the largest IPSO members - has requested a 'judicial review' on the grounds that “That is not what Leveson or those drafting the Charter intended.
Task C- Legal Essay- the Defences to Defamation
The defences to defamation is often a person who has been sued for defamation can defend their decision to publish on the grounds of the truth. Also the defence of defamation is to prove the communication in question stated the truth. this will result in complete and absolute exoneration for the defendant. Even if the defendant has malevolent intent when communicating the information, and regardless of whether it was in the public's interest to make it known, the veracity of a claim will still provide the defence.
In some situations, freedom of communication is considered to be so important that the participants are completely protected for being liable for defamation. Anything that is said or done by the member of parliament in the course of parliamentary proceedings is absolutely privileged. this means no action for defamation can be brought even if the person is making the statement made it knowing it can be false.
The law of defamation allows individuals, groups of individuals, companies or firms to sue for damage to their reputation. it can also defame someone by publishing material in various forms and people can sue as long as the material can be reasonably understood to be referring to them.
If somebody sues you for defamation (see How to sue for defamation), there are a number of defences that may be open to you. These defences are contained in the DEFAMATION ACT 1992 and in law that is based on court decisions (called the "common law"). The aim of the defences is to maintain a balance between society's interest in protecting people's reputations and the right of freedom of speech.
J.K Rowling is an example of a celebrity who has files a line lawsuit against newspaper publishers which was against bosses at the Daily mail over a report that was published in 2014 about her past as a struggling single mother. The writer claimed that the editor attributed a single incident involving one women, who visited her at a local church in Edinburgh to formulate a story about how her fellow church members treated her in a Bigoted unchristian manner because she raised a child on her own. The court documents stated that they wrote false information about her time on being a single mother and accusing her fellow churchgoers of behaving an a horrible manner towards her. A journalist reportedly contacted Rowling's lawyer before the article was first published but did not give the author an opportunity to comment. Rowling seeked unspecified damages from publishers at parent company Associated Newspaper
Task D- Ethical Essay
News of the world
The Leveson inquiry is a judicial public inquiry into the culture, practices and ethics of the British press following the news international phone hacking scandal, chained by Lord Justice Leveson, who was appointed in July 2011, a series of public hearings were held throughout 2011 to 2012. The inquiry published the Leveson report in November 2012 which reviewed the general cultural and the ethics go the British media, made recommendations for a new and independent body to replace the existing press complaints commission, which would have to be recognised by the state through new laws.
In 2007 News of the world royal editor Clive Goodman and private investigator Glenn Mulcaire were convicted of illegal interception of a phone message. According to the News of the World the was an isolated incident but the Guardian claimed that the evidence existed that this practice extended beyond Goodman and Mulcaire. In 2011 after civil settlement with Siennna Miller the Metropolitan police service set up a new investigation.
The Guardian stated "Power without responsibility – the prerogative of the harlot through the ages," complained Conservative leader Stanley Baldwin in 1931. He was referring to press campaigns run by the owners of the Daily Express and Daily Mail, the lords Beaverbrook and Rothermere, who wanted the Tories to support free trade throughout the British empire. But if that controversy has long since faded, Baldwin's famous saying has not, because the debate about the power of the press has persisted.

Task F- WRITING COPY
Task F
Representation in the British popular press and the writers obligation.
The article written by Steven Barnett on ‘how our mainstream media failed democracy’ is my opinion is split in the middle it starts off very formal and becomes very negative this is probably so the reader can become on the writer’s side however it gives a scare to the EU public on the immigrants coming to live in the EU as their will be less jobs for the British public and gives the media a negative view.
Most people agree that immigration is out of control in the UK with thinking immigration is to blame for the lack of jobs and housing however the opinions seem strongly behind the harsh measures being taken to stop the immigration situation, the stereotype of migrant groups is becoming an ever more prominent feature of British life.
The writer suggests that there are some basic rules for the journalism and the media courses throughout the western world this will impact on the different culture people that might come to the media courses so this is where I disagree with the article as people can have a free education from the western cities. The "pluralistic media systems give the public lots of different news so they can have more than one way to describe the problem that the media is facing.
The referendum comes up with a tactic to solve their problems but however this can start confusing the public with the situation, so our media has now got an uncomplicated but a deep role in giving the referendum information.
The mainstream is becoming very popular on trying to get out of the EU and stop other people coming in the Europe which is wrong yes they may be taking jobs and filling up places, to me it's nice seeing different people from around the world coming to the UK there must be a reason for this such as starting a new fresh life and trying to be like everyone else. Also the news is becoming very aggressive as they are actually trying to get into people's choice with what place they should be vote in. And more difficult for voter to distinguish between facts and fiction.
All of this is getting over the top to handle and spreading more fear on what might happen to things once we are out of the EU its coming very silly in my opinion as every should have the right to live in the EU it should be their choice not the parliament, they parliament isn't very fair as they should ask people younger 18years old to vote only if you actually understand what will happen and have a say to whether to stay or leave.
By reading this article makes me think it's trying to get more people out of the EU by saying words like reiteration and egregious to me that’s trying to scare more people to leave, the writer is repeating things to try getting the point across which is boring and wrong. Also it can be putting people down as they might have to leave the UK just from people that don’t like the fact that immigrates are taking most of the jobs stating in the article.
There are three ways that Steven Barnett has stated the article for example, one is flooding people with their planes and making it stronger to vote to leave and making it very unrestricted also if it's said people will start to believe the facts that they then article is saying and also the referendum. Second they know it will definitely happen and constant drumbeat of the headlines, the third way is to broadcast the problem to get it out to the public by putting it in the worst way as possible but really it doesn’t plan out to be that bad.
However, being a journalist their main goal is to ensure the right of citizens to truthful and the important information which allows them to form adequate impression about social processes their essence and importance, about the situation in the modern world.
The survey results were pretty the same from asking 10 different people from the members of my family to members of the public the answers to the first question was some people choose yes and no but some people said the EU Referendum accurately and the second question was very strange as the majority of the public said yes and the rest of the people answered no.
The Sun representation of Muslim statistics are was ordered to admit a controversial story that said one in five British Muslims had sympathy for Isis was "significantly misleading", the IPSO received an unprecedented 3000 complaints over the article which was headlined "1 in 5 Brit Muslims" sympathy for Jihadis. However a IPSO spokesman informed that the newspaper had provided various interpretation of the poll results which conflated important distinctions between people who was travelling to Syria and people who are fighting in this country, this is between sympathy for individuals attracted by the ideology of Isis.
British newspapers were very overwhelmed in favour of Brexit with the mail Telegraph, Express and Star accounting for times as many readers and anit- EU stories as their pro remain rivals. The IPSO are against 20 pro Brexit stories due to the fact of the number of EU migrants coming into Britain and their impact within the UK.
